Ethiopia Highlights Reform Agenda at BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting

National Bank Governor Eyob Tekalign says Ethiopia’s ongoing fiscal, monetary, financial-sector and exchange-rate reforms are strengthening macroeconomic stability and resilience.
Ethiopia has highlighted its ongoing economic reform agenda at the Second BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) Meeting, held in Mumbai, India.
According to the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), the Ethiopian delegation was led by Governor H.E. Eyob Tekalign (PhD) and participated in the meeting hosted under the Indian Chairship’s theme: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
The meeting brought together finance ministers and central bank governors to discuss key challenges and opportunities facing BRICS economies at a time of continued uncertainty in the global economic environment.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Eyob highlighted Ethiopia’s ongoing fiscal, monetary, financial-sector and exchange-rate reforms, noting that the country’s reform measures are aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability and improving the resilience of the financial system.
The Governor also pointed to the challenges facing developing economies, which can be disproportionately affected by volatility in the global economic landscape.
For Ethiopia, participation in such high-level forums comes as the country continues to implement broad economic reforms and deepen its engagement with emerging global and regional economic partners.
The BRICS platform has increasingly drawn attention as a forum for cooperation among major emerging economies, with discussions spanning finance, trade, investment, development and broader international economic cooperation.
For Ethiopia’s business community, the country’s continued engagement in international economic forums—and its focus on macroeconomic and financial-sector reforms—remains closely connected to the wider business environment, including access to finance, investment confidence, trade and long-term economic stability.
As Ethiopia navigates a changing global economic landscape, the message delivered in Mumbai reflects a broader national objective: building a more resilient economy capable of responding to external shocks while supporting sustainable growth and development.
