New Development Bank and Ethiopia Explore Deeper Cooperation

Ethiopia’s engagement with the New Development Bank (NDB) has taken a further step following a bilateral meeting between National Bank of Ethiopia Governor Dr. Eyob Tekalign and NDB President Dilma Rousseff.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, according to an announcement from the National Bank of Ethiopia.
Discussions focused on shared priorities and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Ethiopia and the NDB, particularly in support of the country’s national development agenda and ongoing economic transformation.
The engagement comes as Ethiopia advances its potential membership in the New Development Bank. The Ethiopian Council of Ministers has recently approved the country’s NDB membership, with the proposal now referred to Parliament for final ratification.
If approved, the membership would mark a significant development in Ethiopia’s engagement with the multilateral development finance institution and could create opportunities for deeper cooperation in development financing.
The bilateral meeting between Governor Eyob Tekalign and Dilma Rousseff highlights the growing importance of international financial partnerships as Ethiopia pursues its economic transformation agenda.
