OTTAWA, September 24, 2026 — Canada has updated its estimated processing times for temporary residence applications, with changes affecting work permits, visitor visas and Super Visas, while study permit timelines remained unchanged.
According to CIC News, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reported on September 22 that work permit processing increased to 16 weeks for applications made from within Canada, while applicants in the United States saw processing rise from three to four weeks. For applicants in India, Pakistan and Nigeria, work permit estimates remained unchanged.
Study permit processing times remained stable, including five weeks for applicants from India, seven weeks from Pakistan and 10 weeks from Nigeria. Visitor visa processing, meanwhile, increased modestly for several countries, with Nigeria rising to 93 days and Pakistan to 78 days.
Super Visa processing times moved in the opposite direction in several countries. The largest change was recorded for applicants in the United States, where the estimated wait fell from 116 days to 66 days.
IRCC emphasizes that these figures are estimates rather than guaranteed processing deadlines. Actual processing can vary depending on application complexity, inventory levels, processing capacity and requests for additional information. The department updates temporary residence estimates weekly.
From January through July 2026, IRCC processed more than 1.83 million temporary residence applications, while more than 394,000 remained awaiting finalization as of July 31.
